Want to escape from all the recent chaos in your life and just go to the beach, feel the sand around your feet, have some “me time”, or just enjoy the day with no worries on your mind? Does sunbathing, surfing, or scuba diving make you super excited? Yes, you really deserve this vacation! However, sometimes your busy schedule or current situation just doesn’t allow you to go to the beach (bummer!). So, why not create your own coastal bedroom?
Here’s what you’ll learn from this page:
- Nice beach vibe design inspiration for your bedroom
- What are the coastal (or beachy) colors?
- Awesome tips how to create a coastal or beach-style bedroom
Before heading out to buy stuff for your bedroom, the first thing you’ll need is a design inspiration because it will guide you on the color palette and different elements to create a coastal bedroom.
What do you see and feel whenever you go to the beach? For example, you’ll experience the calm atmosphere and feel the warm sand and cool blue water. There are also seashells and starfish on the shore, beach huts and hammocks where you can relax while eating a delicious fruit plate or drinking a fresh fruit smoothie. Surfboards are lined up and you can choose from different exciting activities like surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and many more. Aside from your summer outfit, you’ll need a wicker bag or tote and a straw hat to complete your look.

Are you now psyched to create your coastal bedroom? Then let’s get started!
Color Palette
For the color palette, you’ll need to include colors that remind you of the ocean, like dark blue, aqua blue, powder light blue, turquoise, and white. Moreover, red, orange, coral, and yellow represent the colors of a perfect sunset at the beach. You can mix all the different “ocean colors” to create a chill atmosphere in your bedroom.
Incorporating the Coastal Elements: How to Decorate Your Bedroom
After determining the color palette, you may now incorporate the coastal key elements into your room to make it look like a holiday destination. Also, add some extra touches by including photos and souvenirs from your beach trips to make it more personal. Here are some wonderful items you can include in your bedroom.
1. Under the sea lovable items – corals, shell curtains, shell décor, and starfish
Seashells, corals, and starfish are inexpensive and nice décor to put on top of your table. Decorate a plain window, door, or wall with a shell curtain to add some flair and contribute to the summer look of your room.

2. Wicker bed head board and baskets
One of the basic elements of a coastal room is wicker (for example, rattan or bamboo) because of the natural and beach-cottage feel that it gives. A nice wicker headboard, for instance, brings texture to and evokes warmth in your room. If your bed doesn’t have a wicker headboard, you can add different shapes of baskets in your room instead.

3. Bamboo and rattan lamps
Bamboo is great for a coastal bedroom as it can make your room cozy and homey, and is also said to improve the flow of positive energy. Try to buy a bamboo panel and place it against the wall or use it as a divider. Not only is bamboo eco-friendly, but it’s also a sturdy and low-maintenance material. Meanwhile, rattan lamps or light fixtures bring a lush “tropical look” to your room.

7. Bed canopy
Install a white canopy to make your bed dreamy with a resort feel to it. All you need is some light fabric such as muslin (loosely-woven cotton fabric) or tulle (light and wavy netting) and attach them to a wooden rod or ring in the ceiling.
