Is doing the laundry the most exciting part of your day?
Your laundry area may be the last place you’d like to spend your time in, but giving it a makeover can make those tedious hours a little more pleasant.
Usually, a laundry room consists of just a washer, a dryer, some laundry baskets, and some shelves or cabinets to store laundry supplies like detergent, fabric softener, etc. However, you can be creative and add some décor items to make it more interesting!
Making an area beautiful also affects your mood and motivation to do things! For example, when you see a big pile of dirty clothes, the immediate feeling you may have is irritability or laziness. Personally, I feel both! It’s because, honestly, doing the laundry, hanging wet clothes, and then folding them once dry are just not what we want to spend our quality time on. Don’t you agree? So, making the laundry room pretty can be something that will make you feel more enthusiastic in doing these chores and more likely to stay there, rather than avoiding it!
Just a tip: Before you decide on your laundry area makeover, it’s wise to check your budget first. Other important considerations are the colors you want for your laundry room, your personal design style, and the functionality of the space (for example: more areas for storing detergents, clothes, etc.). Lastly, think about what kind of vibe you want from the space (for example: fresh, airy, happy, calm).
There are actually a lot of creative and fun ways how to decorate a laundry area. Here they are:
1. Dramatic walls
The look of this laundry area and dog wash is truly a design inspo! The whole look follows the color Pantone® Classic Blue, and the dramatic mountainous design of the wallpaper coupled with classic blue-colored tiles and intricate vases makes this area look so luxurious.

2. Glam it up!
Who says your laundry area can’t be glamorous? Change it in an instant by adding a glass chandelier, glass cabinets, white flowers, and classy wallpaper. Throw in an embroidered towel and voilà! But don’t let the design fool you; this laundry area actually has more space to place the laundry and to hang clothes in near the dryer.

3. Add extra seating area in the laundry room
Oh yes! I think having an extra function for your laundry room is a brilliant idea. Gathered Group converted the corner of this laundry room into a nook by putting in a neutral swivel chair, some wall décor, and plants to complement the powder blue color in the room. Plus, the geometric floor tiles look amazing!

4. Farmhouse smart space saver
If you have a small space, you can convert it into a laundry area by using a sliding barn door and installing open shelving. A distressed barn door emphasizes a farmhouse look just like what Andi from The Simply Distressed did here. Truly a smart way of utilizing a small space!

5. Lovely vertical designs
Wallpapers really make a big difference and can elevate your space to a whole new level. As you can see here, aside from the beautiful design of the wallpaper, vertical stripes trick the eye and make the space seem taller and more spacious. In addition, vertical stripes can easily match with plain or patterned flooring as well as wood and neutral cabinets.
The white ceiling lamp also adds extra flair to the laundry room!
Notice the cute green crystal-like cabinet knobs? The extra details really make a laundry room special!

This boho-inspired laundry room is actually part of the guest bathroom, which was a fun makeover project by Lauren from vt.diy.home. You can also do this if you have a small space!

7. Coastal feel in blue

To create a laundry room with a coastal vibe that reminds you of beaches and waves, pick shades of blue and white. Brooke Wagner Design picked out a picket backsplash tile and cloud-printed wallpaper to create this coastal theme. You can also opt for a light blue wallpaper and add some wicker baskets and woven wood shades to bring some natural element and texture into the laundry room.
What else can you add? Try a stain-resistant natural area rug made of either jute or sisal.
8. All-white stunning visuals
When thinking about laundry, you immediately think of messy clothes! But as soon as you enter this laundry room, the predominant white color gives an airy and uncluttered feeling to the space. Also, white makes you feel calmer and less hurried, which is best if you have a lot of things to take care of.
White paint isn’t your only option to achieve a clean look for your laundry room; you can also opt to have white wallpaper with subtle/small patterns.

9. Pretty in pastels
Pastel colors make a room instantly brighter and lovelier, especially if you don’t have natural light coming in from the windows, just like what O’Hara Interiors did with this light-pink laundry room.

In this mint laundry room, the designer balanced the soft pastel color with black as seen in the cabinet/drawer handles, countertops, and black wall lamps. If you want to know, the mint-colored cabinets used the paint color Robin’s Nest 618 by Benjamin Moore®.

11. Dreamy floral designs
Who doesn’t love florals? Floral wallpaper will make your laundry room dreamy and charming especially when paired with white cabinets.
I also like that the designer of this laundry room prioritized building lots of storage such as pullout drawers and closed cabinets to hide away clutter and store towels, detergents, and other stuff.

13. A dedicated space for laundry baskets
When you have a lot of laundry, it’s easy to dump them just anywhere. So a good way to be organized is to allocate a space to line up your laundry baskets in a more “fashionable” way, like this laundry room from Bria Hammel Interiors. Also, the pretty, muted brown and purple floral wallpaper makes this space so appealing.

14. Cozy neutral plaids
I just love how plaids make a room so cozy. To complement the look, try adding nice gold/brass canisters to store items such as soap or clothespins. Otherwise, you can use glass canisters.

15. Geometric floor tiles
To add visual interest and personality to a plain space, you can use geometric-patterned floor tiles. Notice how the black patterned floor just pops out!
As O’Hara Interiors explains, “In this laundry room, situated on the upper level next to all the bedrooms, we opted for checkered floors that feel both inviting and lively, but also bright paint colors and subtly patterned wallpaper. With sleek pocket doors to easily hide messes, laundry no longer has to be a daily chore.”
